Awareness Event at Jain Public School, Bowenpally, Hyderabad on 12th July 2013

It was a treat to see children already assembled in their school premises, waiting for us to come and address them on a rainy Friday afternoon. We addressed the entire school from pre-primary to secondary section. Talking to these kids was a completely different experience altogether, the kids were smart and intelligent and had all the answers to the questions we put forth.
Since the kids were so curious and interested in knowing more about OCOL, how it was founded and its present reach, we gathered the secondary sections in their AV room and gave them a detailed presentation on OCOL. We spoke to them about how its was initiated by Dr. Ranga and how it has been functioning ever since. We were quite surprised by the questions that the kids asked, like who is the founder of the organisation, when was founded, what is our reach, etc. The kids enquired about the specifications of the light, the backup hours, the battery used in the light, the backup of the battery etc.
We really enjoyed talking to these kids, their interest on the subject was appreciated and they seemed quite keen on visiting our factory and knowing more about the making of these solar lights. The principal of the school Mr. Praveen Sharma also showed great interest in the awareness that we had created among the kids. He spent quite some time after the session was over and discussed with us as to how he could organise an exposure visit for the children to our factory as well as how the students could engage more with OCOL and it’s activities.
What really felt good was the kids shaking their hands and congratulating us for the good work we had been doing. Their kind words were overwhelming. Such behaviour is usually expected from kids in the higher classes, but the younger kids extending this gesture really touched us.
Since many schools have been very keen about an exposure visit to our factory and knowing about the functioning of solar light, we wish to create a centre where children can come and learn more about solar lights and alternate energy.
